About O-G
Orton-Gillingham tutoring is a therapeutic, multisensory, structured, sequential and cumulative approach to teaching reading and spelling. It was developed by Dr. Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham, as a way to teach individuals with language based difficulties.
How does Orton-Gillingham (O-G) therapeutic tutoring work?
-
employs one-on-one direct multisensory instruction
-
incorporates visual, auditory, kinesthetic-tactile pathways to support learning outcomes
-
focuses on the individual needs of the student
-
progresses at the student's own pace
-
builds on previously taught concepts
-
supportive, caring, therapeutic learning environment
Two or more one hour lessons per week on an ongoing basis, are recommended for O-G tutoring to be successful.
